Eric and Deniece
The date was January 30, 2005. I was fresh out of a five year relationship in which I was miserable. I was feeling free. I was looking for fun. I was looking for friendships. I was definitely not looking for a relationship.
I was on my way home in Rialto, California, when my adorable four year old son let me know he was hungry. He wanted chicken nuggets, so I pulled into the McDrive-thru. The man who took my order actually seemed pretty rude, but when I pulled up to the window to pay, I laid eyes on an exceptional specimen that seemed to defy reality. His green eyes hooked right into my soul, and as emotionally charged as I was, I was not the kind of girl to ask for a man’s phone number…….so I sent my friend in to ask for it. ;) She came back a few agonizing minutes later with, “He took your number instead.” I rolled my eyes and assumed he never intended to call.
Two weeks later, I am cleaning my car when I get a phone call. It took me at least ten minutes to realize who I was talking to, because he didn’t feel like telling me and I was too embarrassed to ask. We talked for three hours, and were finishing each others sentences. We met up about a week later, and we were married in April of that same year.
That was 21 years ago, and those green eyes are still firmly hooked right into my soul.
